The Telepathic Card Trick
You must follow along with the trick. Not only will you surely understand it this way, but you will also memorize it. Now go get that pack of cards.
Phase 1. Start by shuffling the deck, then glance at the bottom card (the 4 of clubs for this example) and then spread out the pack in your hands.
ex: 'Let me show you something. First I shuffle the pack.'
NOTE: The faces of the cards are facing you.
Phase 2. Tell your friend to pick out any card, BUT not look at it, and place it aside. Name the card at the bottom before he chooses. Again, for this example the bottom card is the 4 of clubs.
ex: 'I will now show you that you have telepathic powers. I can see the cards, but you can't. I will tell you which cards you are going to choose, before you choose them and then telepathically send their position to you. Pick any card you want from the deck and without looking at it, set it aside. Your first chosen card will be the 4 of clubs.'
NOTE: You can use many variations to this intro, but I have found that this one makes the most sense and people never catch on if you do it this way as it changes the focus from magic trick to telepathy.
Phase 3. As they pick their first card you see which one they choose and remember it. It is the 2 of diamonds for this example.
ex: 'You will now choose a second card and place it with your first. Your second card will be the 2 of diamonds.'
Phase 4. As they pick their second card you again see which one they choose and remember it. It is the queen of hears for this example.
ex: 'The third card you will choose will be the queen of hearts. Place it with the others.'
Phase 5. As they pick out their third card, you again remember it. In this example it will be the jack of clubs.
ex: 'Ok. I am now going to pick a card and it will be the jack of clubs.'
Phase 6.
You pick out the bottom card (the 4 of clubs) and place it at the bottom of the stack of 3 cards that your friend has chosen. Make sure he doesn't notice where you place it.
ex: 'If your subconsious has heard my thougts and received the communication of the cards position we should now have the following cards: the 4 of clubs, the 2 of diamonds, the queen of hearts and the jack of clubs.'
NOTE: you place the card you have chosen at the bottom of the others so that they will be in order.
Phase 7.
Deal out the four cards, one by one.
ex: 'So, the first card I told you to choose is the 4 of clubs, the second was the two of diamonds, the third the queen of hears and the fourth the jack of clubs.'
Phase 8.
Congratulate your friend on his telekinetic powers.
ex: 'Good job friend_name, it seems that you have quite a receptive mind. You could really benefit from meditation. Now my next trick is'
